The second half of our honeymoon took us back to the sunny United Arab Emirates for five days in the most fantastic resort in the desert. Although the first part of our trip was very adventurous (as you would expect from a safari), the time we spent in the desert was very low-key and relaxing. It was a nice change of pace!

Usually when we travel, Nick and I try to do as many activities and sightseeing as possible quickly and intensely. We love travelling that way, but we decided that on our honeymoon now was a chance to take the pace down a notch and actually just relax.

And that’s exactly what we did! Nick actually planned the whole part of our honeymoon himself and did an amazing job. I was so impressed! We stayed at the Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort in Anantara and loved it. Truly one of the most beautiful hotels I have ever experienced. I felt like I was in real life Aladdin!
It takes approximately 3 hours to drive from Dubai to Qasr Al Sarab (1.5 hours if you are coming from Abu Dhabi.) We arranged through the hotel concierge for a private car shuttle to pick us up from Dubai airport after we landed from Tanzania. The drive was really easy – Nick and I slept almost the whole time. The roads and highways in the UAE were brand new and unobstructed. And once we reached the desert, the view out the car window was incredible! All the rolling sand dunes.
Qasr Al Sarab really looks like an Arabian castle or medieval fortress. The property is huge. This is the type of resort where you dine, sleep and do all your activities at the hotel. You are in the middle of the desert and it feels like a private oasis. It’s the perfect destination to go to if you want to escape and relax.

That said, this is a large resort with hundreds of rooms. If you prefer a hotel with a small private boutique atmosphere, then this is not the place for you. Other guests are about a mix of couples and families. So yes, this resort is child friendly! I’m actually a little jealous of all the cool activities and clubs they have on site for the kids.
